AI: The Power Behind Industry 4.0
You’ve seen my posts about Industry 4.0, but this week I want to spotlight the game-changing role of AI in modern manufacturing.
AI is what transforms automation into intelligence—driving self-optimizing, adaptive, and data-driven systems on the shop floor and beyond. Here's how it’s making an impact:
Predictive Maintenance – AI monitors machine and sensor data to detect issues before failure, cutting downtime and saving costs.
Read more...Process Optimization – AI continuously fine-tunes production parameters like temperature, speed, and pressure for peak efficiency.
Smart Decision-Making – AI identifies trends, outliers, and bottlenecks, enabling faster, more informed decisions.
Autonomous Robotics – AI-powered robots adapt to new tasks, work alongside humans, and respond to their environment.
Quality Control – Computer vision + AI catch defects faster and more accurately than manual inspection.
Supply Chain Intelligence – AI predicts demand, optimizes inventory, and improves logistics with dynamic routing.
Bottom line: AI is the engine driving Industry 4.0—bringing intelligence, agility, and resilience to every level of industrial operations.
Is your company leveraging AI to stay ahead in the Fourth Industrial Revolution? Let’s talk

Logical Attributes for Smart Calculations 🧠
Storing redundant data in your database can lead to performance issues, extra storage use, and increased maintenance efforts. Instead, leverage Logical Attributes in IDF to dynamically compute values rather than storing them.

🔹 Example: Instead of storing On Hand Balance as a static field, create a Logical Attribute:
📌 On Hand Balance = Adjustments - Issues + Opening Balance + Receipts

Why Use Logical  Read more...Attributes?
✅ Real-time updates – Automatically recalculates when data changes, reducing manual corrections.
✅ Saves database space – Eliminates unnecessary storage of derived values.
✅ Simplifies maintenance – No need to update multiple records when transactions are processed.

💡 Use Case: If a warehouse receives inventory or processes returns (Receipts & Adjustments), or if goods are issued out (Issues), the On Hand Balance updates dynamically, ensuring accurate stock visibility without manual intervention.

🚀 Implementing Logical Attributes optimizes performance, reduces errors, and ensures accurate data across all IDF objects.

What calculations have you automated using Logical Attributes? Let’s discuss! 👇

Customize IDF UI for Better User Experience 🎨
A well-organized UI in IDF can make or break productivity. A cluttered, disorganized interface leads to confusion, slower workflows, and more errors. On the other hand, a well-structured UI helps users quickly find what they need, boosting efficiency and data accuracy.

Here’s how to enhance the user experience in IDF:

✅ Use Compound Cards – Combine related data in one place. Example: Instead of switching  Read more...between multiple views, create a Customer Master Card that includes customer details, addresses, and recent orders in one view.

✅ Apply Presentation Schemes – Highlight critical fields with colors & styles. Example: Show Closed Orders in red or highlight high-priority orders in bold to help users spot them instantly.

✅ Rearrange Attributes – Place the most frequently used fields at the top of a card or list view. Example: Move “Order Status” above “Notes” to reduce unnecessary scrolling.

✅ Use Column Breaks & Indents – Improve readability by grouping related fields. Example: In an Order Entry screen, separate Shipping Information from Billing Details using column breaks.

🔹 Pro Tip: Keep UI consistent across different objects—users should feel familiar with navigation across different modules in IDF.

A clean and intuitive UI ensures users find what they need fast, reducing training time, errors, and frustration.

Hello, LX users! I am the IDF Product Manager located in Alpharetta, Georgia. I want to be sure you all know that we now offer IDF education through Infor U.

Our first course is End User Customization -- five 4-hour sessions on how to customize views, subsets, sorts, cards (all types), card files, presentation schemes and templates. It is online, instructor-led, with hands-on workshops. Students really like the workshops! We provide a PDF with detailed instructions and screen  Read more...shots. The instructors can see your screen and help you if you need it. We also provide students with a PDF of all the slides, so they don't have to take notes.

To register:
1. Go to Infor U at https://education.infor.com.
2. You'll see Course Catalog on the left. Click it.
3. Put IDF in the search.
4. When the course comes up click on it to see the dates it is offered.

Our plan is to offer it once per month. We are finishing up the March class today, Friday, April 14. We will skip April while we put the finishing touches on our second course, Foundation for Developers. A lot of people are eager for that one.

The LX users who have IDF have been enthusiastic, but also pretty insistent that they need education. We're working on it! I hope you can take advantage.

Streamline Object Creation in IDF 🛠
Working with Infor Development Framework (IDF)? Efficient object creation is key to success! Whether you're setting up a Customer Master, Order Header, or any custom object, following a structured approach ensures data consistency and seamless integration.

Here’s a six-step blueprint to create new objects the right way:

✅ Define the Object – Give it a clear name and purpose. Example: If you're creating a Product  Read more...Master, ensure the object name is intuitive and follows naming conventions.

✅ Define Attributes – Identify key fields (e.g., Item Number, Description, Unit of Measure) and ensure attributes are formatted correctly. Consider Logical Attributes for calculated fields instead of storing redundant data.

✅ Establish Relationships – Link objects logically. Example: A Customer Master object should have a 1-to-Many relationship with Order Headers.

✅ Set Up the UI – Design views and cards for easy access. Prioritize user experience by organizing fields logically, using tabs, column breaks, and tooltips for better usability.

✅ Define Actions – Automate repetitive tasks. Example: Set up an Order Lookup action that directly pulls related order lines from the Order Header object.

✅ Generate Server Code – Save, commit, and deploy! Regularly test your object in a staging environment before going live to prevent errors.

🔹 Pro Tip: Always use consistent naming conventions for attributes and relationships. A well-structured object makes data retrieval, reporting, and maintenance much easier.

Skipping steps can lead to data inconsistencies, missing relationships, and a poor user experience. Take the time to set up objects correctly, and you’ll save hours of troubleshooting later!
